X-Men: Apocalypse actress, 28, discussed speculation of cosmetic procedures in a candid interview with British Vogue, published on Wednesday, May 16.
“When you’re bulimic, your face tends to bloat,” Turner told the outlet. “So, when I finally did get better in my early 20s, my face went back to normal. Then, suddenly, all the comments were about whether I’d had buccal fat removal or not,” she recalled. “You can never win.”
Buccal fat removal, or cheek fat removal, is a plastic surgery that reduces facial fullness and enhances cheekbones by removing cheek fat. Internet sleuths frequently accuse those in the public eye of having the procedure.
Turner told Vogue she still faces her eating disorder. However, she handles it better now by taking breaks from social media to dodge negativity as she’s gotten older.
“I know when I’m in a bad headspace that the eating thing will always flare up,” Turner explained. “But now I regulate it by sitting in the discomfort and just getting used to that feeling of being full. It’s all exposure therapy. I think life is exposure therapy.”
How Motherhood Helped Sophie Turner Accept Her Body
Meanwhile, Sophie Turner also revealed that motherhood offered up its own sort of psychological plastic surgery.
“To be honest, having kids was the best thing for my relationship to my body,” she insisted.
“I remember after I had my baby, my therapist asked me how I felt in my body. And of course, I was like, ‘Well, there’s milk leaking from my breasts and I’ve been bleeding for a month.’ Then she reminded me how amazing it is that our bodies can do this and how important it is to put all the nutrients in your body so that it can do that. I mean, it sounds so simple, but I never thought of my body in that way before,” she admitted.
“Being a young girl, especially one growing up in the spotlight, you really judge yourself,” Turner added.
Of course, Turner gained fame early on as Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, which ran for 8 seasons from 2011 to 2019. She began filing the cultural phenomenon when she was only 14. She’s essentially never left the spotlight since, having starred in X-Men films and going through high profile divorce with pop singer Joe Jonas.
