During her recent Eras Tour stop in Australia, Swift revealed on stage she was lonely while writing her album Folklore.
“[I was] imagining that, instead of being a lonely millennial woman covered in cat hair drinking my weight in white wine, I was a ghostly Victorian lady wandering through the woods with a candle in a candlestick holder,” she explained while on stage. “And I wrote only on parchment with a featured quill.”

Taylor Swift stated while she thought that’s what she looked like while writing the album, she wasn’t writing that way. “That is not what I looked like… So that’s all that matters – the delusion.”
During the time she was working on Folklore, Swift was dating Alwyn. He ended up helping to write some of the record’s tracks. Among the songs were Exile and Betty. The former couple started dating in 2015 and kept the relationship extremely private.
Taylor Swift previously told Paul McCartney about the reasoning behind keeping the relationship away from the public. “I think that in knowing him and being in the relationship I am in now, I have definitely made decisions that have made my life feel more like a real life and less like just a storyline to be commented on in tabloids,” she stated. This was said while praising The Beatles bandmate for his private lifestyle.
“Whether that’s deciding where to live, who to hang out with, when to not take a picture,” she noted. “The idea of privacy feels so strange to try to explain, but it’s really just trying to find bits of normalcy.”
Joe Alwyn Allegedly ‘Concerned’ About Taylor Swift’s Upcoming Album ‘The Torture Poets Department’
As previously reported, Joe Alwyn is allegedly concerned about Taylor Swift sharing more details about their breakup in her upcoming album The Torture Poets Department.
A source close to the Harriet star told Daily Mail he would be shocked if Swift revealed any negative details about their relationship in the upcoming record.
Fans believed her new album’s title was inspired by the actor’s WhatsApp group, The Tortured Man Club. The group was between Alwyn and friends Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott. The trio would chat about the “woes” of their relationships.
“Joe has not said one word about Taylor or their breakup,” the insider stated. “And has been completely respectful of her. It’s undeniable that the name of her upcoming album is in reference to Joe’s WhatsApp group chat.”
“Taylor knocked him for the name of this when they were together,” the source pointed out. “She didn’t want people to think that it had anything to do with her, so when he spoke out about it, she was, of course, bothered.”
The insider pointed out that if it is a “diss album” against Alwyn, it’s really shady. “He helped her with songwriting on her past album,” they noted. “So it will really come as a shock to him if she talks about their breakup, as it is something he has not spoken of at all.”
Taylor Swift announced her new album during the 2024 Grammys. It will be released on April 19.
