As she spoke to the crowd at the National Stadium in Kallang, Singapore, Swift declared, “As you can see, my hair has returned to its factory setting, thanks to the humidity here. I’m not complaining, I like it. But I do want to commend you because it’s very humid and you guys have just turned it up 100% all night.”
Taylor Swift continued to praise those at the show by stating, “You’ve been dancing, you’ve been standing and taking pictures all night. And you look so cute, why am I sweating so much? Then I’m looking at you, you all look perfect.”
Along with making jokes about her hair, Swift also announced the fourth and final version of her upcoming 11th studio album The Tortured Poets Department. The new album will be making its debut on April 19. The version is titled The Black Dog.
She also shared the news on her Instagram account. “‘Old habits die screaming…’ File Name: The Black Dog.”
Swift announced her new album while accepting the Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2024 Grammys. “I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out on April 19.”
“It’s called The Tortured Poets Department. I’m gonna go and post the cover right now backstage. Thank you. I love you. Thank you.”
Taylor Swift is Related to Famed Poet Emily Dickinson
Meanwhile, Ancestry.com announced that Taylor Swift is related to the American poet Emily Dickinson. They are notably sixth cousins, three times removed.
“Swift and Dickinson both descend from a 17th-century English immigrant (Swift’s 9th great-grandfather and Dickinson’s 6th great-grandfather who was an early settler of Windsor, Connecticut),” Ancestry revealed to TODAY.
“Taylor Swift’s ancestors remained in Connecticut for six generations until her part of the family eventually settled in northwestern Pennsylvania, where they married into the Swift family line.”
Taylor Swift previously referenced Dickinson while discussing the different types of lyrics she writes. “If my lyrics sound like a letter written by Emily Dickinson’s great-grandmother while sewing a lace curtain, that’s me writing in the Quill genre,” Swift said while on stage receiving the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade Award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International in 2022.
TODAY further reports that fans have speculated Swift’s ninth studio album, Evermore, was inspired by Dickinson as well. The album was released on Dec. 10, 2020, which is also Dickinson’s birthday.
The American poet’s work, One Sister Have I in Our House features the word “forevermore,” which is similar to Swift’s 2020 album title.
