Shortly after making some critical remarks towards Donald Trump’s attorney general nominee, Matt Gaetz, The View co-host Sunny Hostin was forced to read an awkward legal memo about allegations made against the now-former Florida congressman.

During her on-air rant, Hostin called out the president-elect for nominating Gaetz following a series of accusations.
“How could you nominate someone with allegations of child trafficking or trafficking across state lines and having sex with a 17-year-old?” The View co-host stated. “My understanding, further on in the interview, they discuss the fact that once he finds out that she’s 17, he stops having sex with her.”
However, less than five minutes later, Sunny Hostin was handed a legal note from The View production team.
“Sunny, you have a legal note,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg pointed out.
Hostin replied, “I do, Whoopi, thank you.”

Hostin: They discussed the fact that once [Gaetz] finds out that she's 17, he stops having s*x with her.

She then read the legal memo out loud. “Matt Gaetz has long denied all allegations,” she bluntly shared. “Calling the claims ‘invented’ and saying in a statement to ABC News that, ‘This false smear following a three-year criminal investigation should be viewed with great skepticism.”
Hostin went on to add, “The [Department of Justice] investigation was closed with no charges being brought.”
Gaetz was previously investigated by the Justice Department about the sex trafficking allegations. Although the investigation ended in early 2023, the Florida congressman resigned from his seat days before the House Committee on Ethics was to vote on whether to release a report on its investigation into the allegations that Gaetz engaged in sexual misconduct as well as illicit drug use.
‘The View’ Hosts Predict Matt Gaetz Will Be Blocked From Becoming the Next Attorney General
While discussing Matt Gaetz being picked as the attorney general nominee for Trump’s upcoming cabinet, The View co-hosts predicted that the former congressman will more than likely be blocked from holding the position.
“If there is one person they’re going to block, I would guess it’d be Matt Gaetz,” Alyssa Farah Griffin said. “I think the way they’ll do it is they’ll say, ‘Let’s not make this your problem, Donald Trump. I’m just going to say the votes aren’t there, put someone else up who can get through.’”
Griffin also expects Trump’s criminal defense attorney, Todd Blanche, to be at the next selection.
“Whatever you think of him appointing his criminal defense attorney, he has the qualifications to be there,” Griffin explained. “He’s a former federal prosecutor. He worked for the Southern District of New York, but Matt Gaetz is a person of low moral character. This is widely known about him, and I’m kind of bullish he’s not going to get through.”
Sunny Hostin admitted to feeling “deeply disturbed” by the lack of judgment Trump is making while selecting his cabinet members. “I’m not surprised, but I think a lot of people said things like, ‘He’s just kidding. He would never do this.’ Well, this is the best joke.”
