While on the sidelines, Kelce was seen yelling Reid and eventually bumping the head coach. Although social media quickly criticized the situation and Kelce, Reid responded by stating it wasn’t a big deal.
“He tested that hip out,” Reid said during CBS’ post-game show. “He caught me off balance – normally, I’d give him a little bit, but I didn’t have any feet under me.”
Andy Reid also praised Travis Kelce for his keen focus on winning. “The part I love is that he loves to play the game and he wants to help his team win,” Reid stated. “It’s not a selfish thing, that’s not what it is, and I understand that. So as much as he bumps into me, I get after him and we understand that.”
During the Feb. 14 episode of his New Heights podcast, Travis and his brother Jason Kelce walked through the incident. “You crossed a line,” Jason said. “I think we can both agree on that.”
Responding to Jason’s remark, Travis said, “I did. I can’t get that fired up to the point where it’s getting him off balance. When he stumbled I was just like, ‘Oh s—,’ in my head.”
Travis Kelce continued to say that he’s a very passionate guy and loves Andy Reid. “Coach Reid knows how much I love to be a product of his coaching career.”
Andy Reid has been coaching Travis Kelce since the tight end was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013.
Travis Kelce Says He Refuses to Play for Anyone Else If Andy Reid Retires
As he and his brother Jason Kelce continue to chat about Andy Reid, Travis stated he refuses to play for anyone else if the Kansas City Chief head coach retires this year.
“I’m not playing for anybody else but Big Red,” Kelce stated about Reid. “If he calls it quits this year I’m out there with him.”
Travis Kelce then said that he has a “certain relationship” with Andy Reid as well. “He’s checked me a few times,” Kelce continued before circling back to the sideline spat. “And I just wanted to let him know that I wanted this thing, and he can put it on me and I got him.”
Kelce further explained that the intense incident came just as the Chiefs weren’t playing very well. It was when Isiah Pacheco fumbled in the second quarter. “It just came at a moment when we weren’t playing very well. And sometimes my emotions get away from me, that’s been the battle of my career.”
