According to the New York Post, the new security upgrade was made by Boston Dynamics and is with the United States Secret Service. As the unusual-looking robot makes its way across the Palm Beach resort’s grounds, everyone is encouraged to “not pet” it.
“Safeguarding the President-elect is a top priority,” a spokesperson with the agency confirmed to the media outlet. “While we cannot get into the specific capabilities, the robotic dogs are equipped with surveillance technology, and an array of advanced sensors that support our protective operations.”
The robot dog appearance at Mar-a-Lago comes just days after Donald Trump beat Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election.
During his victory speech, the president-elect called his MAGA base the “greatest political movement of all time.” He also referred to his victory as well as other Republican wins in Congress as “unprecedented and powerful.”
Trump then said he would help the country heal following the divisive election.
“And now it’s going to reach a new level of importance,” he said. “Because we’re going to help our country heal. We have a country that needs help and it needs help very badly. We’re going to fix our borders, we’re going to fix everything about our country. We made history for a reason tonight.”
Kamala Harris later spoke out about the loss in her conceding speech. “The outcome of this election was not what we wanted, not what we fought for, not what we voted for,” she said. “But hear me when I say the light of America’s promise will always burn bright as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”
Donald Trump Advances His Security After Multiple Assassination Attempts During Presidential Campaign
The latest security update also comes months after Donald Trump was shot at during his political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
As Trump was speaking to the crowd, gunfire ranged out. The then-candidate was seen bleeding from his ear as his Secret Service team rushed him off the stage.
The shooter was identified as 20-year-old Bethel Park, Pennsylvania resident Thomas Matthew Crooks. He was killed by the Secret Service’s Counter Sniper Team.
Along with Trump, Crooks also killed one rally attendee and injured another.
During the second assassination attempt, Trump was out golfing at his Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. Ryan Wesley Routh, from Hawaii, was indicted for the incident. A witness saw Routh running across the road from the golf course and getting into a black Nissan Xterra. He was later apprehended heading northbound on I-95.
Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco released a statement about the second assassination attempt.
“This alleged attempted assassination of the former President at his golf course was a direct attack on our democracy,” she stated. “Political violence has no place in this country — not then, not now, not ever.”
“The charges today reflect the Department’s continued resolve to deploy every available resource to ensure public officials remain safe,” she added. “And to hold accountable those who target public officials to the fullest extent of the law.”
