Nicole Rockmann, the actress’s mother, told the Los Angeles Times on Thursday they are confident in pursuing a “negligence case” against St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, Canada.
“We have a case. All we care about is that Mamie can make a recovery and that she’s alive and that she’s fighting and that she’s strong,” Rockmann told the outlet. “It’s unbelievable that she’s with us,” she added.
Rockmann described her daughter’s survival as an “absolute miracle” and held the hospital accountable for the fall.
She also clarified that the incident was accidental and not a suicide attempt.
“There will be accountability,” she promised, noting that Mamie Laverock had been moved to a trauma center and was no longer receiving treatment at St. Paul’s.
A Providence Health Care spokesperson confirmed an incident at St. Paul’s but provided no details due to patient privacy.
“In cases related to patient safety, an internal critical incident review is conducted to determine exactly what happened and to make recommendations for improved patient safety,” the rep told the Los Angeles Times.
“Our hearts go out to the patient, family, and all affected by this event, and we offer our best wishes for a full recovery,” they added.
Mamie Laverock Shows Signs of Recovery Following Multiple Surgeries
Rockmann told the LA Times that Laverock had just opened her eyes and was alert enough to squeeze her hand. Despite being in tremendous pain from her injuries and multiple surgeries, she remained sedated to aid her recovery.
Her mother informed the outlet that, following her surgeries, she remained on life support but was no longer dependent on a ventilator.
Rockmann shared an update on the GoFundMe page she and her family created to help with Laverock’s medical expenses. She explained that her daughter had already undergone three operations.
The GoFundMe campaign kicked off after Laverock faced a life-threatening medical emergency in Winnipeg, Canada, on May 11. The fundraiser page did not provide details about the nature of the crisis.
Laverock was transferred from the hospital in Winnipeg to St. Paul’s. Prior to the fall, Rockmann mentioned her daughter’s recovery was “uncertain” but noted she was “showing signs of improvement.” Rockmann expected Laverock to require care for “at least a month or more.”
Laverock played a recurring role as Rosaleen Sullivan in When Calls the Heart. She portrayed the nursing student during the show’s first two seasons. She returned to reprise the role in 2023 for the Western drama’s 10th season.
