Taylor’s new album, The Tortured Poets Department, dropped this morning — with a shocking double album and a batch of surprise songs. One of those songs was titled “thanK you aIMee.” Taylor is infamous for hiding secret messages with the use of random capitalized letters. In this case, of course, the letters spell out “KIM.”
The lyrics start with, “When I picture my hometown, there’s a bronze spray-tanned statue of you and a plaque underneath it that threatens to push me down the stairs, at our school.”
Many fans point out how Taylor compares Kim to a high school bully. This makes sense considering their controversial history.
First, Kayne West — Kim’s ex-husband — infamously interrupted Taylor’s 2009 acceptance speech at the VMAs.
Later, he released a song called “Famous” where he rapped, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that b—tch famous,” then claimed Taylor approved of the lyrics before the release. Kim had his back through all of this and even shared a private phone call between the rapper and singer to “prove” Taylor was lying. She also called Taylor a “snake.”
“All that time you were throwin’ punches, I was buildin’ somethin’ / And I can’t forgive the way you made me feel,” Taylor’s lyrics go. “Screamed ‘F—k you, Aimee’ to the night sky, as the blood was gushin.’ But I can’t forget the way you made me heal.”
Taylor Swift Calls Out Kim Kardashian in New Song
While Taylor neither confirms nor denies who her songs are about, many fans believe “thanK you aIMee” is undoubtedly about Kim.
Taylor even refers to her mother, Andrea Swift, in the song, singing, “Everyone knows that my mother is as a saintly woman / But she used to say she wished that you were dead.”
There’s nothing like a mother’s protectiveness and love for her children — especially when they’re suffering. This was the case for Taylor after the Kim and Kanye vendetta.
In fact, Taylor stated in an interview with Time that the feud “bleak” moment for her.
“You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar,” Taylor said. “That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year.”
Taylor’s song concludes with a major clapback that fans love.
“And one day, your kid comes home singin’ a song that only us two is gonna know is about you,” she sang.
